We offer comprehensive dental services at Four Paws Animal Hospital at Johns Creek for dogs and cats. Many owners are nervous about having their pet under anesthesia. This series of photos depicts a dog named "Fluffy" having a routine dental cleaning.

"Fluffy" is admitted the morning of his dental. He has preoperative blood work before his procedure to make sure he is healthy for anesthesia. We check his kidney and liver values, blood sugar, red and white blood cell count, and electrolytes to ensure a safe anesthetic experience. He also gets a thorough physical exam by the veterinarian before he is sedated.
This photo shows "Fluffy" getting an intravenous catheter in his leg prior to his dental. He will get intravenous fluids during his dental and the catheter also gives quick access for emergency drugs if needed.  Dental
Next "Fluffy" is put under general anesthesia for his dental. He has an endotracheal tube in his mouth that protects his airway during the dental. He also has a monitor hooked to him that checks his heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. Dental
A technician uses an ultrasonic scaler and polisher to clean "Fluffy's" teeth. The scaling removes the tartar and plaque from the teeth and also from under the gums.  Dental
"Fluffy" has a bad tooth that must be pulled. He gets a dose of pain medicine in his catheter and a local anesthetic so that it won't hurt.  Dental
"Fluffy" goes home later in the afternoon. He is sent home with pain medicine and antibiotics following his dental. He also gets a dental kit including a toothbrush and toothpaste to start an at home dental care routine.
